If you fancy a few hours or a few days away from the busy coast, why not make a trip to Iles de Lerins, near Cannes, or go to St. Tropez by boat ?
You could also consider renting a boat. Nothing beats the tranquility of the sea and that of the sound of the waves gently lapping at the boat. There are many possibilities of hiring a boat, with or without a licence (if you don't have a licence there are obviously some restrictions to respect).
Here are some possible destinations:
The Iles de Lerins consist of two main islands: Ile Sainte-Marguerite and Ile Saint-Honorat. They're both a mere 15 minutes away, by ferry leaving from Cannes.
The bigger Ile Sainte-Marguerite is a beautiful place to visit for scenic walks, a visit to its museum explaining its rich history, and to enjoy some excellent food in one of the two restaurants on the island.
For information and tickets visit the Ile Sainte Marguerite website.
Ile Saint-Honorat is the smaller of the two, and has got a 16th century monastery, the Abbaye de Lérins. The monks living in the monastery produce a local wine, that you can taste together with your lunch on the island!
For more information and boat tickets, go to the Îles de Lérins website.
Île de Bendor is a small island, just 300m off the coast at Bandol, in the Var departement.
There is a ferry service to and from Bandol, which runs several times a day.
Tiny, but scenic and picturesque!
Avoid the traffic in high summer, and take the boat to St. Tropez! For more information and boat tickets, go to the St. Tropez by boat.
