Ancient ruins: Oppidum de Castellaras, Thorenc

Oppidum de Castellaras is the remains of a 12th century fortified village. You can just imagine how people must have lived here such a long long time ago... the vistas are breathtaking and accentuated by ever changing cloud formations: towards the west where the foot hills of the Alps slowly give way to the flatter terrain of the VAR departement, and to the north where you can see the snow covered peaks of the Maritime Alps. Beautiful in almost any type of weather, but especially in spring, when big white fluffy clouds float across the deep blue sky...but then again, you also don't want to miss the warm glow of the sun on a late afternoon in October...
Walking duration: 1h30 return; 30 mins drive from Grasse, 1h from Nice
