French Riviera Walks - Rocca Sparvièra (Coaraze)

Some 35 minutes north of Nice lies the village of Coaraze, where this walk starts. Rocca Sparvièra means "Hawk's Rock", and it's an abandoned, some say haunted village, where until well into the 17th century 350 people used to live their daily lifes...
The only building still standing is the chapel (Chapelle 'Saint-Michel'); everything else has fallen into ruins, giving the area a ghostly ambiance.
The views are stunning , 360 degrees wide over the lower pre-Alps and towards the north over the snow covered Alps.
Be careful and mindful of the possibility of falling stones, some walls are really in a bad state.

Crêtes du Bauroux The Ruins of Rocca Sparvièra

The most recent time I did this walk was in December and this walk can be done at any time of the year.
Total walking time, from Coaraze village to Col St. Michel and back, is about three and a half hours.
