Valbonne, situated right in the heart of Sophia Antipolis, is a charming old Provencal village. Its narrow streets are laid out in a nearly perfect rectangular grid.
Valbonne has got numerous art galleries, decoration and gift shops and is a very popular tourist destination.
Every Friday morning it has a busy and very popular market.
Every first Sunday of the month there is an antiques market and of course just before Christmas there is a beautiful Christmas market.
I have had many a nice meal in Café des Arcades, L'Auberge Provençale, both in the village itself, or just outside in L'Auberge Fleurie, Chateau de la Bégude or Le Mas des Géraniums, in Opio.
Surrounded by forest, there's plenty of opportunities for some scenic walks. For example along the river Brague, pictured, a picturesque walk way from Valbonne all the way to Biot. Nearby Parc de la Valmasque has also many walking tracks, running trails (which I use every time I can) and picnic spots. There's many golf courses in the area, for example in Opio.
The nearby Technology Park called Sophia Antipolis, is home to many international companies and provides employment to some 26 thousand people. Most of those people working here are from other countries, with some 30-40 nationalities represented!
